Project No. 4: Norski Track – relocate two existing signs to new locations and install two new sign posts
Project status: Forest Service approved
Date Planned: Spring/summer of 2024 depending on snow conditions
Location: Norski Track/Trail
Project summary: This project consists of relocating two existing signs to new locations to increase visibility, and the installation of two new sign posts. One sign to be relocated is at the trail head, and the other sign is located at Junction F, approximately 0.8 miles from the trail head. The signpost will be set using concrete. The ideal minimum number of volunteers to complete this project is approximately four given the need to transport tools, a new post, water, and the sign to the more remote location.
Maintenance activities: Includes carrying tools and supplies to the work site, digging post holes, setting the wooden signpost using concrete, and installing the relocated signs.
Activity level: Given that one location is at the trail head, and the other location is approximately 0.9 miles, the physical requirements for this task are estimated to be moderate. This includes the fact that a limited number of tools are required, only one post and one bag of concrete, and two gallons of water must be transported to the work site. The level of effort to dig the hole will vary depending on the ground composition. Setting the post and mounting the sign is a relatively easy task. As with any project, the work site’s distance from the trailhead and any associated gain or loss in elevation should be considered.
Distance: From trailhead to any work site is a round trip distance of 2 miles or less.
Elevation: Elevation at the starting point is approximately 10,200 feet, and the elevation loss to the remote work site is approximately 200 feet, with a gain of approximately 200 feet on return to the trail head.
