Team Members

  • Walter

Walter is our project coordinator and fearless leader. He is a founding member of the TERMITES and is USFS crosscut and First Aid certified. He has put in hundreds of hours to make this all work. He interfaces with the Forest Service and makes sure the TERMITES have everything they need to get the job done right.

  • Richard

    Feb. 1947 to Dec. 2021

Richard was a founding member of the TERMITES. Without his efforts in 2020, the Norski track would not have been cleared of downed trees in preparation for 2020-21 ski season. In addition, in 2021, he participated in projects to saw and clear downed trees and tree debris from the Borrego Trail below Aspen Ranch and the Winsor Trail above the Ski Basin. He was a quick learner, a hard working volunteer, didn't complain, and he was liked by all.

  • Tony

Tony is the Chief Scout and resident doctor. He likes to go on long hikes with lots of tools. He reports downed trees, and areas that need the TERMITES’ help. He is a USFS crosscut certified, and is Basic and Advanced First Aid certified. He has the distinction of being the first to hold title of “Tool Devil.” He is being nominated for the TERMITES “Valor” medal for fighting off a swarm of bees on the Borrego trail. He has actively participated in a number of TERMITES projects. He learned that if you hear a cracking sound early in the process of sawing a large diameter log you should take heed. Tony is credited with coming up with the TERMITES name.

  • Brian

Brian is a founding member of the TERMITES. He is a pack horse (not literally) when it comes to moving posts for signs over the trail. He is USFS crosscut saw certified and Basic and Advanced First Aid certified. Prior to Brian’s taking a position with Hyde Memorial State Park he would volunteer on average two days a week with the TERMITES.

  • Stuart

Stuart is a core member. He is the chief sign maker, and a dedicated TERMITES volunteer. He is USFS crosscut saw certified, and certified in Wilderness First Aid. He is in training to become a project activity team lead.

  • Steve

Steve is a project engineer and has been a crew member since 2022. He has many years of experience working in construction and consulting. His experience as a crosscut sawyer continues to grow. He has the distinction of currently holding the title of “Tool Devil.” He also has the distinction of having a flat tire from a “tack” on the dolly while operating it on a hiking trail.

  • Richelle

Richelle has been a crew member since July 2022. She is the TERMITES webmaster and helps orient new volunteers. She is CPR/First Aid certified, enjoys using the two-person cross-cut saw and going on long hikes. She loves that the TERMITES gets her outside and away from her office desk.

  • Eva

Eva joined the TERMITES in 2022 and has helped on many work days to scout and clear the trail of debris. Her experience in sizing up trees for sawing and in the use of the crosscut saw continues to grow. She is also an avid hiker.

  • Chris

Chris helped to construct the Norski trail and now volunteers with the TERMITES to maintain it along with other trails in the SFNF.

… Plus other dedicated TERMITES who work hard to make what we do possible!
