Project No. 7: Norski Track tread repair, trip hazard removal and adjust tread for drainage
Project status: US Forest Service approved
Date Planned: Summer/Fall 2024
Location: Norski Track/Trail
Project summary: This project is the continuation of a project started in FY 2021. In FY 2021 rocks and roots were removed from approximately 30% of the Norski Track main loop. Continued work will include removing trip hazards (rocks and roots) from the trail, and trail grading to facilitate drainage. The minimum crew size is two. The only limit on crew size would be driven by the ability of team leads to provide oversight and guidance to the work crew. The project may be performed concurrently with maintenance projects being performed at other locations within the Santa Fe National Forest.
Maintenance activity: Work activities will consist of removing trip hazards (rocks and roots) located in the trail, grading the trail tread, the trail tread will be adjusted to facilitate water draining off the trail, and brushing will be performed as necessary. Tools used to perform the maintenance activity will include the following tools: pick Mattocks, Pulaskis, axes, shovels, rakes, small saws, and battery-operated reciprocating saws.
Activity level: Physical requirements will range from light to moderate, with the most arduous being associated with removing rocks and roots from the trail. Some sections of the trail to be worked will require limited maintenance, while other sections will require extensive maintenance. The maximum roundtrip distance to the most remote work site is approximately 2.0 miles, with a gain or loss in elevation of approximately 200 feet.
Distance: From trailhead to any work site is a round trip distance of 2 miles or less.
Elevation: Elevation at the starting point is approximately 10,200 feet, and the gain and loss from the trailhead to any work site is less than 200 feet.
