Norski Cross Country Ski Track and Hiking Trail Maintenance Activities

2023 Maintenance Season

A number of maintenance and related projects were accomplished on the Norski Track during the 2023 Maintenance season. Maintenance accomplishments include the following 1) Additional permanent directional and informational signs, including new signposts when needed, were installed along the Norski Track. 2) Small updated maps were installed at all main trail junctions. 3) Temporary signs were installed at the trailhead encouraging hikers and persons snowshoeing to use other nearby trails for these activities. 4) Newly discovered downed trees were sawed and removed from the track/trail as needed. 5) A small team brushed small aspen sprouts in preparation for the upcoming cross-country ski season. This activity prevents small aspen sprouts from growing into young trees which then obstruct portions of the track used for skiing.

Activities associated with this project included: 1) Scheduling a work day to accomplish the approved tasks, 2) determining where additional directional and informational signs were needed; 3) ordering the signs and small trail maps through the US Forest Service; 4) installing the signs and maps using small hand tools; 5) digging holes for the additional signposts and installing them; 6) downed trees were removed from the trail using the Silky or crosscut saws; and the team then removed tree debris from the trail; and 6) a small team using garden hoes and pruning shears cut back young aspen sprouts found in the ski track.
